About Eviction Prevention for Professionals

What You Will Learn

Have you ever struggled to help your clients keep their rental housing? Would you like to learn how to assist your clients who are at-risk of eviction as they communicate with their landlords during this difficult situation? We provide critical training skills for professionals who want to assist tenants in maintaining housing stability. In this course, you will learn: 1. How best to help tenants before, during and after they may become at-risk of involvement in an eviction proceeding. 2. How tenants can avoid the top 10 mistakes that often lead to eviction. 3. How to link tenants in need to a host of community resources that are available in Central Ohio to help during a sudden/short- term housing crisis. 4. How tenants with past evictions or less than perfect credit can access decent housing, even in today’s housing market. This course will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon (Eastern Time). Please note that the deadline to register is 48 hours prior to the start date/time of the training.

About the Presenter

Shelley Whalen

Shelley has been the Executive Director of Community Mediation Services of Central Ohio (CMS) since its inception in 1989. She is a graduate of the Ohio State University, College of Social Work and a former President of the Ohio Mediation Association.

During her tenure at CMS, Shelley has successfully mediated hundreds of disputes including extremely complex cases involving government officials, Fortune 500 companies as well as entire neighborhoods and school districts. Shelley has also designed and delivered professional level training in mediation and non-adversarial conflict resolution for numerous public and private organizations throughout the country including: universities, hospitals, Fortune 500 companies and multiple divisions of Ohio State government as well as the Supreme Court of Ohio, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association.

Continuing Education Credit

Refund Policy

Refunds: All refunds of training fees are subject to a $40 administrative charge and must be requested a minimum of three (3) business days prior to the start date of the training. Fees for registrants canceling fewer than three (3) business days in advance of the start date of the training are non-refundable, but may be applied toward a future Community Mediation Services of Central Ohio training for up to one (1) year from the initial registration/payment date.
